Harper's endorsement of Poilievre, coming while the Pope does what Harper lacked the moral courage to do, seals Poilievre's fate to the ash pile of illiberal history
neither far-left, nor far-right politics, will ever be a prominent force in Canadian society

The first English-language Conservative-Party, sanctioned, debate between leadership contenders on Wednesday, the 11th of May, in Edmonton, the previous debate was a Poilievre staged event
Pierre Poilievre
... arrogantly, detached from reality, leading a mob, in search of a demagogue
Canada is a liberal parliamentary democracy, based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed and equality before the law. The law is the supreme authority under Canada's system of government.
Neither far-left, nor far-right politics have ever been a prominent force in Canadian society. And no matter how much the likes of Poilievre and the mob that descended on Ottawa or the Wexit proponents' try and inculcate distrust of traditional Canadian institutions, extremism will not prevail in Canada.
Yes, we have heard it all before, us against them, we are being replaced, our privileges are being taken away, they listen to that liberal news outlet ...
Wait a minute, did I actually hear Poilievre accuse Charest of learning about the mob descending on Ottawa from the liberal media, the CBC?
So, Poilievre, an individual who seeks to convince some of the people of Canada, especially the uncharacteristically Canadian far-right, that he can lead Canada backwards into a golden-age of mass unmarked graves, and unsolved missing and murdered women cases, and where his fellow Conservative past champions spoke of the peril posed by specific Canadians, openly — is of the opinion that the CBC is a Liberal (capital L), as opposed to a Conservative (capital C) media.
If so, Poilievre is in need of full-blown, one-hour on the couch, several times a week, psychoanalysis, and urgently.
Remembering that psychoanalysis is based on the tenets, or understanding, as it were, that — if it can be talked about, it can be thought about, and if it can be thought about, it can be controlled. Well, Poilievre already talks a lot, now we just need to coax him into thinking about what he is saying, and we can begin the long, slow process of a return to rational thought, and speech patterns.
Because there is still the remnants of a health service the Conservatives have not been able to diminish, under the guidance of a skilled psychiatrist, Poilievre, can work through these sorts of idiosyncratic (delusional) beliefs. However, in certain cases of severe, long-standing, and deeply-held delusions, as in Poilievre's circumstance, the length of the treatment cycle might be considerable.
Only someone whose place on the political spectrum is so far to the right that anything approaching the center from that extreme position seems to be on the opposite end of the spectrum, could arrive at a descriptor of the CBC (Barton & co.) as being liberal.
While Calgary would be the preferred venue for most Conservatives, however, that would revive memories of Kenney bringing Ford (the female blowhard, not the male one) into Calgary and the violence that followed there during his election run. And, let us not forget the 'best summer ever' debacle.
And, more recently, the missteps by Calgary Police Chief, Mark Neufeld, whose constables attacked local residents, who only wanted the convoy protesters out of their neighborhood parks, and not those who were actually causing a ruckus. Neufeld made a correction the weekend after the police riot, and with silk gloves, moved some of the protesters on. An indication that his constables actually have warrant cards that permit them to take someone into custody, when they observe a violation.
How inviting Edmonton must seem by contrast, since Chief Dale McFee was largely spared the fate of Ottawa Chief Sloly, and the near demise of Neufeld, due primarily to inclement weather, which severely curtailed convoy protests around the Edmonton area.
However, it is noted that this author cautioned McFee's rather vehement chastisement of public criticism of him on social media, by suggesting to him that if he continued to do so, it would not be long before there would be balloon effigies of him wearing a diaper, being paraded down Jasper Ave.
McFee is aware fully of what the days surrounding the 11th of May portend for Edmonton.
Naturally, Kenney is of the opinion that bringing the illiberal Conservative roadshow to Edmonton will bolster his fledging bid to hold on to power in Alberta. Kenney is also of the opinion that his handling of the pandemic was superlative, which is evidence that his judgement in such matters is less than ideal.
The Conservatives believe that cities like Edmonton, are fertile ground for them to ply their far-right messages.
One of the first editorials about Poilievre, after he announced his intention to seek the leadership of the Conservative Party was that he would win because he was 'mean', in fact, much meaner than any of the other contenders.
And since then he has been the darling serpent of the Conservative press. They have all, but anointed him the next leader of the nationalist freedom movement, and the traditional Conservative mantra of law and order, be damned.
The illiberal press of Edmonton, the Journal and Sun, will write such adoring things about Poilievre that by the time he departs Edmonton, one would think that Poilievre should be spared the lengthy nonsense of the electoral process and be installed in office directly, and forthwith.
Let us remind ourselves, just what havoc the fine and upstanding, freedom-loving citizens wreaked upon Ottawa, and why they are so worthy of Poilievre's praise, notwithstanding the obvious fact that he needs their votes to win.
But it is the premise of this author that a win for Poilievre at any level, is a loss for the promise of Canada, and more bodies to be discovered along the Murder Trail.
Some of the white supremacists who took their well-rehearsed hate speech to Ottawa, fully intended to breach the Parliament building, and in a reenactment of the storming of the US Capitol Building on the 6th of January, 2021, parade their hate speech symbols within its walls.
And this is what the morally-challenged Poilievre praises as just freedom-loving Canadians peacefully voicing their displeasure at being told that they have a personal responsibility to the national effort to stem the tide of a raging pandemic (what the Globe & Mail states was being shamed into wearing a mask).
At the same time, illiberal leaning politics does not bestow a right on its adherents to infect others, in a country where one's personal security is enshrined as a fundamental right.
The net result of politics getting in the way of sound medical practice, is that as we enter the midpoint of the third year of the pandemic, Children's hospitals across North America i.e., Canada, the United States & Mexico, are reporting high rates of admissions as the viruses return, with a vengeance.
Omicron BA.2.12.1, BA.5 & BA.4, which is responsible for most new infections in North America, contain mutations not present in the BA.1 and BA.2 versions of Omicron.
There may be trouble ahead, as many race to end mask restrictions. Newborns, infants & children will bear the brunt of such a foolhardy gesture.
