Bi-Partisan Effort Needed to Bring US Postal Air Freight to Wilmington Air Park
Eric LaMont Gregory
In an era known for its lack of bipartisanship, Wilmington - the epicentre of the Great Recession, may prove to be the epicentre of the Great American Recovery and a reminder how far bipartisanship can take us.
Joe Hete, former ABX CEO, is heading an effort to bring US Postal Service Air Freight operations to the Wilmington Airport facility. There are a number of factors which support such a move and its not just about the facilities themselves.
Some of the highest ratings for customer service in the airfrieght industry were recorded at the Wilmington Air Park when it handled DHL's freight. So, there is a cadre of local people with the necessary skills to carry out airfreight handling services and do it well.
Hete has made major investments in the Air Park since the closure of the DHL operation , and it seems that he is intent on making those investments pay off.
The community of Wilmington and surroundings counties will be the big winners if Hete's initiative gets the bipartisan support that is required.
Hete has already sought the support of federal elected officials on both sides of the aisle.
