Seneca County Republican Party
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak;
courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
Dear Eric LaMont Gregory,
This statement arrived from Republican State Chairman Kevin DeWine this afternoon:
Chairman Kevin DeWine
Dear Fellow Committee Member,
Over the past year our State Central Committee has become the center of a highly-charged contest for the future of the Ohio Republican Party. Too many Members, through no fault of their own, have lost sleep, lost friends, and lost hope during this process. I believe that in order to ensure victory for 2012 this family fight must end now. To accomplish that goal I intend to lead by example.
It was with a profound sense of purpose that I accepted the unanimous consent of the Committee in January of 2011, to serve as your chairman. It is a responsibility I have not taken lightly, and a contract which I, along with the staff, will see through to completion. However, those who want to see new leadership in this Party will have their chance, as I will not run for another term as your chairman in January of 2013.
Nothing is more important to Ohio Republicans than defeating Barack Obama and reelecting our majorities in the U.S. House, Ohio House, Ohio Senate and on the Ohio Supreme Court. Additionally, we have the responsibility of sending Josh Mandel to the U.S. Senate and many Republicans to county offices across the state. Any distraction from this mission is simply not in the interest of the Party and our supporters.
For the sake of achieving unity, continuity, and victory, I will continue to direct all my energies toward reelecting Republicans and defeating Barack Obama and Sherrod Brown's liberal agenda in 2012; then, in 2013, I will proudly pass the torch of responsibility for our Party to whomever you, as an elected member of the State Central Committee, believes has the sound ideas, ability and vision to reelect Governor Kasich, and our other statewide office holders, legislators and local leaders.
As Republicans motivated by what President Lincoln deemed the "better angels of our nature," I hope you will see this decision as an attempt to do exactly what I promised to do when I became your chairman: to put Party before power and service before self. Following this month's Primary Election, I'm confident that a strong majority of members support my continued leadership of our Party. But continuing to put this Party through such a process would strain the bonds among us that will be critically important as we prepare for what will be the most significant election of our lifetimes.
While this was not an easy decision, I truly believe it is the right one under the present circumstances. The Ohio Republican Party is bigger than any individual or elected official. The Party serves hundreds of thousands of Ohioans who have a common philosophy of limited government and personal responsibility. The course of action I have outlined, and my departure next January, allows the Party to focus on our core mission.
Your service as an elected leader of the Party serves as a testament to our collective sacrifices and hard work over the years and represents the ideas, values and platform that will make our Party victorious. Thanks for all you have done and the service you continue to provide Ohio Republicans. As a Committee Member and your chairman, I look forward to standing with you during the months ahead to move Ohio and our great nation toward victory in November.
